“Are you entitled to a free eye examination?”
The NHS eye examination is free to:
- Children under 16
- Under 19’s in full time education
- Over 60’s
- Anyone on income support, job seekers
allowance, families’ tax credit, or disabled
persons tax
- People who require complex lenses
- Anyone with diabetes or glaucoma
- Over 40’s with a parent, child or sibling with
glaucoma
If you require further information on NHS eye
tests, the frequency of free eye testing or NHS
contributions towards the cost of spectacles, just
ask a member of our staff or telephone the NHS
directly on 0845 46 47.
Are you entitled to free spectacle lenses?
If you are in receipt of low income benefits such
as income support, job seekers allowance,
family tax credit or disabled persons tax
allowance then following an eye test, you are
entitled to a voucher that covers the cost of any
new single vision or bifocal lenses, when bought
in conjunction with a new frame.
Existing frames can reglazed using the voucher
with a modest reglazing charge. The voucher
can also be used toward the cost of varifocals or
contact lenses.
