About Eyewear Direct

Eyewear Direct began August 2000 when Ashley Lewis and Kevin Guest opened their opticians practice in the Riverside Precinct in Shrewsbury. In 2003 with their expanding business, Eyewear Direct moved to its present location at 62/63 Mardol.

Optometrist and contact lens practitioner, Stephen Ellerker joined the practice in 2004. Stephen qualified as an optometrist in 1973 with an honours degree in optometry from City University, London. Moved to Shrewsbury in 1974 and set up a practice in Bayston Hill, and then in Walker street, in Wellington, Telford. In 1979 he bought a practice in Castlegates, Shrewsbury where he practised for 10 years before selling it and taking time out to do a further Masters Degree at Middlesex university. He is an experienced optometrist and specialises in contact lenses having obtained an advanced contact lens qualification in 1979.

In early 2007, with Kevin and Ashleys’ other business committments, Stephen was given the opportunity to buy the business. He took over on 1st June, and intends to develop Eyewear Direct’s reputation for commitment to service.

Out of Hours Service

Our out of hours service offers clients an opportunity to book an appointment to have their eyes tested and purchase spectacles if required out of the normal opening hours. This service is aimed at busy executives who lead hectic lives and want to pay for our services when it is convenient for them, such as early morning or evening.

The service costs only £40 including retinal photography.
